As we enter the year 2025, a lot of things are changing and new laws are coming into effect. One of those of changes is the increase in the price of Deutschland ticket from €49 to €58.
However, for Berliners who still uses the €29 Berlin Subscription public transportation ticket, I have an update for you. The BVG has just announced that this subscription will be discontinued and therefore would be soon removed from the VBB tariff. The reason for this is simple, the state of Berlin who previously subsidized this ticket has decided in her wisdom that she will no longer fund the ticket. As an alternative, BVG offers users the option to switch to the popular Deutschland ticket effective from March 1, 2025.
Should I Cancel My €29 Berlin Subscription Ticket Immediately?
No, there is no need for this. BVG will automatically provide you with a Deutschland ticket for the same price of €29 (instead of €58) until the end of your current subscription. What this means is that from March 1, 2025, you will receive Deutschland ticket instead of the Berlin subscription ticket. You will only be charged €29 and still has the chance to discover beautiful places throughout Germany with your new Deutschland ticket.
How Do I Get My New BVG Ticket?
If you currently use the digital ticket (mobile ticket), the new Deutschland ticket will be made available in your smartphone app. However, for those who use the chip card, BVG will send you a new chip card to use for the remainder of your contract.
What Are The Next Steps?
If you are agree to the change, you don’t need to do anything else! BVG will do the change for you automatically. However, if you want to cancel your remaining contract with BVG, you can do this until January 15, 2025 and therefore BVG won’t charge you for the remaining part of your contract.
